Commenting on the Government’s aviation policy as set down in ‘Developing a sustainable framework for UK aviation: Scoping Document’, Miles Templeman, Director-General of the Institute of Directors, said:
“By ruling out any significant expansion of airport hub capacity in the short or medium term at Heathrow or any other location seemingly, the Government has opted for environmentalism over competitiveness. Ministers should recognise that this decision, which locks us into an airport system with little or no spare capacity, will have negative implications for the UK’s economic growth in the long run. If we want a vibrant economy we need a modern transport system. Aviation is part of this.”
